#i have no life

visaisahero:

sunday mornings can be beautiful, but it’s beautiful like a fresh soft flower or a laughing child in play, not the shaking grizzled hands of a matriarch or the weathered bark of a great, ancient tree
if hours were cigarettes, sunday morning is the one you have when you’ve just woke up, stiff muscles, eyes crusted and mouth dry, lazy smiles at the thought of dalliances and amusement to comeand tuesday 2am is when you tarry in the midst of ceaseless labour, the anxious smoke you steal in the break you’re not supposed to have, when time permits you neither to sit down nor to wipe the sweat from your browand you look at the stars and you shudder in the cold and you look at your hands and you look at your brothers and you don’t even know what to think but dear god in this moment you are alivealive

dear god

what do you mean that you shoot it at "half speed?"

Anonymous

Film works because it is sensitive to light. Oversimplification, but it’ll do for what I need to explain. As film ages, it loses some of that sensitivity. So to counter that process, you can let more light onto the film to make up for the lost “speed.” So if it’s 200 ISO you would shoot it as if it were 100 ISO 400 at 200, 800 at 400, etc. The shutter is open for twice as long as it normally would be, more light hits the film, less grain in your pictures. Well there’s still a lot of grain. I hope that makes sense?

What various years did the film you bought expire?

Anonymous

1999-2004 - it was cold stored. I shoot it at half speed. Grain FTW!

I wanted to ask before I did it (because asking permission is nice) but I'm going into college dorms next Fall and wanted to print or paint and frame/hang some of your poetry in my dorm room. Naturally I'd tell people where it was from but I wanted to be sure. :)

Do you think it's more important to try and decipher poetry to find the author's meaning? Or do you feel that having one's own interpretation is more important? I'm sorry if you have been asked this before!

Anonymous

I think both, but ultimately your interpretation as the reader is the most important for you. When I read poetry it usually goes something like: read it once or twice (depending on what I like to call the HUH? or WTF factor), check my emotional reaction, read it out loud, try to figure out what I think it means, google the shit out of it to see what other people think, (sometimes) come to a conclusion, read it again. The author’s intent is what drives the poem’s power - my number one rule (only rule?) about writing is that it has to be genuine. But what you take away from the poem as the reader is your interpretation. Sometimes figuring out what the author meant helps solidify your relationship with the words, sometimes it doesn’t.
